Some slight marks in the obverse field, nearly extremely fine. $50. Sorry, SOLD (April, 2021). ——– Paul Vincze (1907-1994), the son of a Jewish father and Roman Catholic mother was born in Hungary. He studied at the High School of Arts and Crafts in Budapest and later in the studio of E. Telcs. In 1935 he won a scholarship to study in Rome. In 1937 he moved to England and eventually became a British citizen. He worked out of a studio in Chelsea, but later moved to the south of France, where he died. He is noted for an extensive body of medals.

Rizzello: DOLPHIN

 

1983, Great Britain. DOLPHIN. By Michael Rizzello, published by British Art Medal Society. Cast bronze approximately 95mm. &400. Sorry, SOLD (November, 2020). ——————- Michael Gaspard Rizzello was born in London on 2 April 1926. His parents were Italian, his father working as a tailor. Rizzello enlisted in the army in 1944 and served until 1948. He was a good singer and considered a career in music, but chose art instead, enrolling in the Royal College of Art winning both the Drawing Prize and Travelling Scholarship in Sculpture. This led to him studying sculpture in Rome for two years. He was awarded the Prix de Rome for Sculpture in 1951. He began his career making wax heads for Madame Tussauds. Rizello became a noted sculptor and served two terms as President of the Royal Society of British Sculptors. He created several coins and medals. He received the OBE in the 1977 birthday honors. Rizello died on September 28 2004 in London.
