Gen vol. 3 175/E. Maier 120. Extremely fine. $250. Sorry, SOLD Jean-Baptiste Daniel-Dupuis, French painter, sculptor and medallist, was born in 1849. At the age of seventeen he entered l??cole Nationale Sup?rieur des Beaux-Arts. In 1868 he won second prix de Rome for medal engraving and the first Grand Prix de Rome in 1872. He exhibited regularly at the Salon. He was made an officer of the L?gion d?honneur in 1898. Daniel-Dupuis died tragically in 1899, when he was killed by his wife, who had a history of mental illness. she then turned the gun on herself.

He studied at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts under Dumont and Ponscarme. He won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome in 1875.? He took the grand prize at the International Exposition in 1889. In 1888 he was elected to the Acad?mie des Beaux-Arts. Roty died in 1911. He was a commander of the L?gion d?Honneur. He was one of the premier French medallists of his period. In particular he is noted for reintroducing the plaquette as an art form that had been neglected since the Renaissance.
