Boris Bernstein, sculptor and medallist was born in 1907. He studied at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts. He studied medal making under Morlon. Berstein died in 1978.

1923, France. THE CARPENTER AND HIS FAMILY. By Henry Dropsy. Bronze plaquette 73mm x 63mm. $125. Sorry, SOLD (May, 2021) ————- Henry Dropsy was born in Paris on January 21, 1885, into a family of sculptors. He learned his craft under his father Jean-Baptiste ?mile Dropsy. He later studied at l??cole Sup?rieure des Beaux Arts. He was a professor of medal engraving at the school for many years. Dropsy became a member of the Institut in 1942 and a member of the Commission Administrative and of the Commission du Dictionaire. He created many medals. A large collection of his work is held at the Monnaie de Paris, which put on a special exhibition of his medals in 1964, the catalogue for which remains a standard reference. His earliest works are in the art nouveau style. His style evolved considerably over his long career. Dropsy died at Veneux-Les-Sablon on November 2, 1969.

1932, France. DR. CHARLES BUIZARD. By Pierre Turin. Cast bronze 109mm. OBVERSE: Head of Charles Buizard facing right. $575. Sorry, SOLD (May, 2022). ———- Pierre Turin was born in Sucy-en-Brie (Val-de-Marne) on 3 August, 1891. He trained as a steel engraver and became a student at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He studied medal engraving under Henri Auguste Jules Patey and Fr?deric-Charles Victor de Vernon. He participated several times in the competition for the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving, receiving a deuxi?me second Grand Prix in 1914, a premier second Grand Prix in 1919 and finally winning the competition in 1920. He had a distinguished career as a medalist and designer of coins. He is noted for his many works with a bold, Art Deco style, in particular the prize medal from the 1925 Exposition Internationale Des Arts Decoratifs Et Industriels Moderns in Paris. In 1938 he was made a Chevalier of the L?gion d?Honneur. Turin died on July 25, 1968 in Sucy-en-Brie, where he had been born.
