1968, France. 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE END OF WORLD I. $50. Sorry, SOLD. ——- Raymond Delamarre was born in Paris on June 8 1890. He studied under his father, an engraver, and under Jules Coutan at l’?cole des beaux-arts de Paris. He was also a student of Rodin. He was mobilized in World War I and was wounded and captured in 1914. He returned to Paris following the war and won the first Grand Prize de Rome for Sculpture in 1919. He exhibited at the international expositions of 1925, 1931 and 1937. Delamarre is noted for large scale sculptures, and a bas-relief, Les Arts et Monuments R?gionau on the liner ?Normandie.? He created a large body of medals and plaquettes. Delamarre died on February 28 1986. ——- A biography and discussion of his work are included in RAYMOND DELAMARRE 1890-1896, published in 2007 to coincide with an exhibition of his work.

Hippolyte Lef?bvre, sculptor and medallist was born in Lille in 1863. He studied at the Acad?mie des Beaux-Arts in Lille, where he won first prizes in drawing and sculpture. He later entered the ?cole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he won numerous prizes. He exhibited at the Salon and won the Grand Prix de Rome in sculpture in 1892. At the 1900 Universal Exposition, he won gold medals for medals that he exhibited. Lef?bvre died in 1935.

REV: Athena. $225 ———– Andr? Henri Lavrillier was born on 7 May 1885 in Paris. He studied under his father, Charles, an engraver, and later under Chaplain and Bourdelle at the ?cole des Beaux Arts. He won the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving in 1914. He was later made a Chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur. Besides medals, he designed a number of coins, including the 1933 5 franc coin and coins for Romania. Lavrillier died in1958.

Louis Oscar Roty (1846-1911) was born at Paris. He initially studied painting at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts under Lecoq and Boisbaudran. It is reported that he lost the money for a paint box and subsequently enrolled in a life-drawing class and thence into sculpting. This trajectory would eventually lead to his career as the most celebrated medallist of his time. Along the way, he studied in the atelier of the statuary Augustin Dumont and under Ponscarme, Chapu and Chaplain. Roty spent three years in Rome, where he modeled a number of waxes. He won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome in 1875.? In 1888 he was elected to the Acad?mie des Beaux-Arts. He took the grand prize at the International Exposition in 1889. He was a commander of the L?gion d?Honneur. He was responsible for reintroducing the plaquette, an art form that had been neglected since the Renaissance.
