1900, France. CENTENARY OF LA BANQUE DE FRANCE. By Oscar Roty. Silver 69mm. Obv: A female bust, wearing a winged helmet, facing left. Rev: A seated and a standing female looking out over a small town and countryside. Extremely fine. $250. Sorry, SOLD ? Louis Oscar Roty was born at Paris in 1846. He studied at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts under Dumont and Ponscarme. He won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome in 1875.? He took the grand prize at the International Exposition in 1889. In 1888 he was elected to the Acad?mie des Beaux-Arts. Roty died in 1911. He was a commander of the L?gion d?Honneur. He was one of the premier French medallists of his period. In particular he is noted for reintroducing the plaquette as an art form that had been neglected since the Renaissance.
