Undated (circa 1910), France. MILITARY SERVICE. By Marie-Alexandre Coudray. AE 68mm. Obv: Gallia standing with a youth and pointing into the distance. Rev: An unengraved rectangular compartment set against a scene depicting various symbols of military service. Extremely fine. $150. Sorry, SOLD Marie-Alexanre Coudray was born in 1864. He studied at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieur des Beaux-Arts and was a student of Dumont, Thomas, Allouard and Ponscarme. In 1893 he won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving. In 1898 he won a first prize at the Salon and a silver medal at the Universal Exposition. Coudray died in 1932.?

Sorry, SOLD (September, 2024) ———– Marcel Rau, sculptor and medallist, was born in Brussels on March 20 1886. He studied sculpture under Paul Dubois (1829-1905) at l’?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1909 he won the Belgian Prix de Rome for sculpture. Rau died in Brussels on June 29 1966.

Paul Vincze, the son of a Jewish father and Roman Catholic mother was born in Hungary in 1907. He studied at the High School of Arts and Crafts in Budapest and later in the studio of E. Telcs. In 1935 he won a scholarship to study in Rome. In 1937 he moved to England and eventually became a British citizen. He worked out of a studio in Chelsea, but later moved to the south of France, where he died in 1994. He is noted for an extensive body of medals.
