At the age of 13 he was apprenticed to a button-making manufactory, where he was responsible for engraving dies. He later studied at the École des Art Décoratifs. In 1869 he joined the atelier of Paulin Tasset and in 1871 he joined the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. He won the Premiere Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving in 1878 and a gold medal at the Salon of 1900. In 1903 he was made an Officier de la Légion d’Honneur.

Henri Auguste Jules Patey, sculptor and medallist was born in Paris in 1855. In 1873 he entered the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieur des Beaux-Arts. He studied sculpture under Capu and medal engraving under Chaplain. He first exhibited at the Salon in 1877 and won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome, for medal engraving, in 1881. He won a bronze medal at the Universal Exposition of 1889 and a gold medal at the Exposition of 1900. In 1896 he succeeded Lagrange as engraver-general of coins. Patey was made a Chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur. He died in 1930.

The Delande family broke up the business?s archives around 2010.
