It provides the historical context for the events commemorated and describes each medal and its iconography in detail. Since the history of the Low Countries of this period was so strongly connected to other countries it was potentially an important resource for collectors and scholars elsewhere, but being written in Dutch limited its value to those outside the Dutch-speaking region. A French edition was published some years later, which made the work more accessible to others, but it is a rare work that is hard to find today. This English translation was the project of passionate collector who wanted to make this iconic work available to a wider audience. It fills a significant void. This new edition includes engravings from the original publication with the addition of numerous color plates. It also introduces a new numbering system. It is sure to be a valued addition to many numismatic libraries.
