Undated (late 19th century), THE ?COLE DES BEAUX-ARTS MARSEILLE. By Jean-Baptiste Daniel-Dupuis. Silvered-bronze 56mm. Obv: A female, holding a palm frond and seated on a cloud, place a wreath on the head of a nude youth, who holds a mallet and a palette and brushes; a statue of Minerva in the background. Rev: An inscribed tablet within a wreath. Nearly extremely fine. $90.? Sorry, SOLD Jean-Baptiste Daniel-Dupuis, French painter, sculptor and medallist, was born in 1849. At the age of seventeen he entered l??cole Nationale Sup?rieur des Beaux-Arts. In 1868 he won second Prix de Rome for medal engraving and the first Grand Prix de Rome in 1872. He exhibited regularly at the Salon. He was made an officer of the L?gion d?Honneur in 1898. Daniel-Dupuis died tragically in 1899. He was shot in his sleep by his wife, who had a history of mental illness. His wife then turned the gun on herself and committed suicide.? Daniel-Dupuis created an extensive body of medallic works.
