Circa 1990, Great Britain. HENRY MOORE. By Avril Vaughan. Cast bronze 100mm. $250. Sorry, SOLD (April, 2021) ———- Avril Vaughan, one of Britain?s leading medallists, was born in Twickenham. She won a scholarship to the Twickenham School of Art, where she studied in the 1950s. In the early 1960s she went to work for the designer and goldsmith, David Thomas, There she developed the skills in the cire perdue casting method, in stone cutting and in enamelling. She later freelanced as a jeweler and sculptor. In 1976 Vaughan worked for the Royal Mint and modelled the coinage for Tuvalu after designs by John Donald. She served as senior sculptor at the Franklin Mint U.S.A. for a couple of years, then returned to freelance work, undertaking commissions from the Royal Mint, the Norwegian Mint and the Royal Dutch Mint . She won a Prize at the 1992 FIDEM congress for the best portrait medal. She died in 2008.
